The two time defending Section 8AAA champion Bemidji Lumberjack Wrestling team opened their season with a pair of dominating wins at the BHS Fieldhouse over two Class AA top 15 teams. The Jacks opened the night with a 42-27 win over Thief River Falls and finished with a 48-19 rout of Perham.
In the opener, The Jacks took the first four matches, with Brody Castonguay opening the season with a pin. The was followed by a 17-1 Tech Fall win by Gavin Osborn, a pin by Alec Newby and a 21-10 Major Decision by JD Kondos. The Prowlers came back with five straight wins of their own before the Jacks wrapped things up winning four of the last five matches. Seth Newby got a pin at 170, followed by Nelson’s pin and Colton Hinrichs 10-4 decision. The Jacks wrapped up the match with Caleb Bahr’s pin at 285.

In the Perham victory, Gavin Osborn pinned his opponent 20 seconds into the 113 match to give the Jacks the lead. Alec Newby followed up with a pin as did Seth Sisneros. Coy Olson had a pin at 138 and Noah Leffelman followed up at 145. Seth Newby won his match 12-6 and Hoyt Solum won a 5-2 decision. Nate Schwinghammer pinned his opponent 17 seconds into their match at 220, and once again Caleb Bahr wrapped things up with a pin at 285.

The Lumberjacks start the new season 2-0 and will be back at it Tuesday, heading to Mora for a triangular against the Mustangs and Little Falls.
