Bemidji High School graduate Sam Hansen publicly announced late last week that she will continue playing soccer at the collegiate level next season for the University of Northwestern in St. Paul.
Hansen was a contributor for the BHS girls soccer varsity dating back to her freshman year, helping the team win three consecutive Section 8A titles from 2017-19. In addition to winning the third of those championships in her senior season, the midfielder posted four goals and five assists while co-captaining the Lumberjacks.
The University of Northwestern competes in the NCAA’s Division III and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. The Eagles are coming off an 11-11 season that ended with a loss to St. Scholastica in the UMAC championship.
The college soccer commitment from Hansen is the fourth such announcement from Bemidji girls soccer’s Class of 2020. Katie Alto (Concordia-St. Paul), Lindsey Hildenbrand (Concordia Moorhead), and Lexi Paquette (North Central) all previously announced plans to play collegiately next year.
