Two goals in the opening minute of the game and four in the first period launched East Grand Forks to a 5-0 win over Bemidji boys hockey on Thursday evening at the Bemidji Community Arena in the two teams’ second meeting this season.
Cole Avery scored after just 17 seconds to vault the Green Wave in front, a lead that was quickly doubled when Zach Stocker scored 44 seconds into the game.
The lead became 3-0 at 4:55 of the first when Landon Parker scored unassisted for East Grand Forks, who would get another goal with less than two minutes remaining in the first from Garrett Beauchamp.
Bemidji’s best chances in the first came in succession from Wyatt Halvorson and Lincoln Huerd during a spell of pressure:
Jaksen Panzer completed the scoring with a second period goal for EGF. After relieving Bemidji starting goaltender Tanner Rebischke in the first period, Andrew Johanns came up with several big saves in the second to limit the visitors from adding more to their lead.
With the loss, Bemidji falls to 3-11-1 overall going into a Section 8AA meeting with St. Michael-Albertville on Saturday at the Bemidji Community Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3pm, with Lumberjack Live pregame at 2:45 on KBUN-AM1450/fm 94.9 and KBUN2 online.
