HIGHLIGHTS: Bemidji Girls Shut Out Sartell/Sauk Rapids For Second Straight Victory

Payton Weidemann’s 23-save shutout effort in net and goals from Madyson Nistler and Elizabeth Oster took Bemidji girls hockey to its second consecutive win with a 2-0 home result over Sartell/Sauk Rapids on Thursday evening at the Bemidji Community Arena.

The shutout was the second of the season for the sophomore netminder Weidemann, who needed both glove and pad saves in the opening period to keep the game scoreless after 20 minutes.

Nistler’s recent run of goals continued as she scored for the third consecutive game on what was the eventual game-winning marker off a feed by Chloe Hasbargen in the second period.

Bemidji threatened again later in the second period with top scorer Chloe Hasbargen testing Sartell/Sauk Rapids goaltender Megan Dorn.

Weidemann was back to work not long after with a double save to ensure that the Lumberjacks stayed in front.

Bemidji came inches away from extending the lead right before intermission when Sammy Nistler rang the post with a shot.

The third period opened with an exchange of chances from both teams that came up empty.

The game’s result was sealed by the Lumberjacks late in the third period with Oster’s power play goal on the edge of the crease after a setup by Kiera Nelson.

Weidemann finished with 23 stops on a night that the Jacks outshot Sartell/Sauk Rapids 33-23. Bemidji’s win was its second in a row during a stretch where the Lumberjacks have gone 3-3 in their last six games.

The Lumberjacks are now 3-12-2 overall and will next host River Lakes on Saturday afternoon at the Bemidji Community Arena for a 2pm game. Pregame will be at 1:45 online at Lumberjacks1 at kbunsportsradio.com.
