HIGHLIGHTS: Bemidji Rolls Past Tech With Sweep Win

Bemidji volleyball rolled to its fourth three-set sweep of the season with a commanding 3-0 win (25-17, 25-21, 25-14) over St. Cloud Tech on Saturday afternoon at Tech High School in St. Cloud.

The host Tigers proved scrappy with their defense and block, but the Lumberjacks’ impressive attack ultimately proved to be too much in the match. After a slow opening to the first set, the Jacks pulled out to a small lead thanks to emphatic kills from Elizabeth Oster in the middle and Mollie Rupp on the outside.

Bemidji led 19-17 late in the first set when a 6-0 run on the serve of Margie Anderson–featuring a good swing from Brooklyn Saiger to finish off a scrappy point–polished off a strong finish to the opening game.

The Lumberjacks again started somewhat lethargically to begin the second, but Beth Bolte’s good hitting continued to be a constant presence all across the front.

After Bemidji built a small lead midway through the set, the Tigers answered to take a 19-18 edge late before another decisive run from the visitors. Rupp and Oster both came up with big kills before the defense of Oster gave the Lumberjacks game point on the way to a 25-21 win.

The third set was all Bemidji from the start, with an early 10-2 lead eventually ballooning to a 24-10 margin in the Jacks’ favor with more contributions from both the attack and blocking.

One final hit from Bolte proved to be the ending blow as the Lumberjacks capped off a comfortable 25-14 win in the third to complete the sweep.

Bolte’s 13 kills led Bemidji for the day, while Rupp and Oster each added 11. Margie Anderson notched 34 assists and Sammy Nistler and Rupp each tallied three aces.

Bemidji (7-7) will next host Roseau on Tuesday evening at 7:15pm in a match that can be heard on KBUN-FM 104.5 and Lumberjacks1 at kbunsportsradio.com.
