HIGHLIGHTS: Close Set Victories Pave Way For Sweep Of TRF For Bemidji Volleyball

Bemidji volleyball used a pair of narrow set wins to set up a 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-15) sweep victory over Thief River Falls on Thursday evening at the Bemidji High School Fieldhouse.

The Lumberjacks quickly raced out to a 6-0 lead in the opening set and maintained the early advantage thanks to a variety of big hits–including from Kate Hildenbrand, Beth Bolte, Kennedy Smith, and Jody Pemberton.

Despite the early hole, the visiting Prowlers slowly closed the gap down as the set progressed. Juniors Bolte and Elizabeth Oster came up with big kills later on to help maintain a lead for the Lumberjacks.

Despite another late push from the Prowlers when trailing 24-21, Bemidji was able to eke out a tight 27-25 victory in the extended opening set.

Set two remained close all throughout, though a series of big hits from Kate Hildenbrand kept Bemidji in front much of the way.

Kennedy Smith put Bemidji on the brink of winning the set with a late kill to make it 24-20, but another Thief River Falls rally briefly extended the set at 24 apiece. The Lumberjacks were able to secure the ensuing two points to pull out a two-set lead.

Bemidji once again pulled out to a lead in the third set, but left no room for the visiting Prowlers to have an avenue back into it. Bolte and Smith came up with several of the highlight points to help the lead grow.

A late flurry from Oster was the final surge necessary to help Bemidji reach the finish line of a sweep victory.

Bemidji improves to 3-2 with the win and will travel to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Tuesday for a 7:30pm match that can be heard on KBUN Sportsradio 104.5 and Lumberjacks1 at kbunsportsradio.com.
