HIGHLIGHTS: Jacks Girls Hit Eight In Senior Day Dominance Of Hillcrest

Marah Bitter, Hannah Voge, and Gracee Bieber all scored twice, and Bitter and Kjerstin Ekhoff each provided three assists as Bemidji girls soccer rolled to an 8-0 Senior Day victory against Hillcrest Lutheran Academy on Tuesday at the Bemidji Middle School.

The shutout victory was Bemidji’s fourth in a row, extending their streak to 328 consecutive minutes without surrendering a goal.

The goalscoring got rolling early for the Lumberjacks with Emma Wright–one of the eight senior players honored in pregame–finishing a splitting pass from Ekhoff to break the deadlock in just the 4th minute.

Another senior added a goal in the 11th minute, but the tally came from an unlikely source. Bitter swung a dangerous corner kick into the penalty area that was met by a first-time strike by Bieber for a first-ever goal at the varsity level for the centerback.

Just moments later, Bemidji had the ball in the net again thanks to a slick exchange between Voge and Bitter that teed the former up for an excellent strike to the far corner.

The Lumberjacks rolled through all healthy and available varsity players during the first half on their way to maintaining the 3-0 lead at the break, though Hillcrest still occasionally threatened in attack on the counter.

After returning to their starting lineup to begin the second half, the Jacks found a fourth goal in the 44th minute thanks to another Ekhoff assist–this time on a through ball to Bitter.

Voge scored her second goal only three minutes later after rounding Hillcrest goalkeeper Hannah Radzwill to finish off a cutting pass from Wright.

A smart turn by Bitter off a pass from Ekhoff allowed her to notch another Bemidji goal in the 54th minute, increasing the lead to 6-0.

Having already discovering her goalscoring touch in the first half, Bieber again was on hand to score at the 64th-minute mark of the second half following a mis-controlled punch by Radzwill.

Bemidji’s final tally came from Lily Paquette in the 73rd minute, who finished off another assist by Bitter.

The Lumberjacks had a chance to add another goal late when a Hillcrest handball inside their penalty area gave a spot kick to the home team, but goalkeeper Morgan Myers missed the penalty kick high.

Kiera Nelson started in goal and made just one save for Bemidji, while Myers totaled two saves in the second half to combined for the clean sheet.

Bemidji (6-4-1) will have a rematch with Brainerd as part of the 218 Tournament in Brainerd on Friday evening at 7pm.
