Two third-period goals on either side of Lexi Leitner’s lone marker for Bemidji helped Fergus Falls to hold off the Lumberjacks for a 3-1 victory in girls hockey on Tuesday at the Bemidji Community Arena.
The Otters never trailed in the game, going ahead at 6:52 of the first period on an opening goal from Maddie Hulter.
Nettie Kimble was busiest during the first period of the game, making a variety of stops to help keep the Lumberjacks within one.
Neither team was able to find another goal until the third period, when the Otters got an unassisted effort from Ellie Andersen to stake a 2-0 lead at 5:20 of the period.
Leitner pulled a goal back just under three minutes later, aided by Mya Lundeen and Bella Webb to give Bemidji life.
But the Otters would seal the result only two minutes later on an unassisted Piper Andrews’ goal that restored the two-goal advantage for good.
Fergus Falls claimed a 23-16 edge in shots, with Kimble stopping 20 in goal for Bemidji.
The Lumberjacks drop to 0-10 and continue to seek their first win on Thursday with a trip to face River Lakes for a 7:15pm game in Paynesville.
