HIGHLIGHTS: Moorhead Snaps Bemidji Winning Run In Four-Set Match

Bemidji volleyball’s run of three straight sweep victories was snapped in a 3-1 defeat (25-16, 16-25, 25-20, 27-25) to Section rivals Moorhead on Thursday evening at the Bemidji High School Fieldhouse.

The Lumberjacks’ run of recent success ran immediately into a determined first-set effort from Moorhead, which led from the early exchanges on its way to a comfortable nine-point win. Mollie Rupp provided a series of big swings on the attack for Bemidji as it tried to stay in touching distance.

Brooklyn Saiger provided a kill of her own later in the set for Bemidji’s offensive effort.

A response in the second set came after the early points, as Bemidji surged out in front with a strong collective run. Among the points, the Jacks put up a strong block defensively through Saiger and Beth Bolte.

The attack found more of a mix in the second set as well, with both Elizabeth Oster and Bolte complementing Rupp’s threat with kills of their own to help Bemidji take a 25-16 victory.

The third set played tight much of the way, but with the Jacks playing catch up for almost the duration. A dig from Bolte helped set up Rupp for another kill, while Oster found the corner on another shot to keep things close.

On serve, Adie Potratz offered up more help by providing an ace from the back line.

Moorhead found a closing burst to go up two sets to one with a 25-20 finish to the third.

The Lumberjacks again had to play catch up to begin the fourth set, but found their form to again tighten things up. Rupp again played a big role with her hitting, joined by a good swing from Saiger on the outside.

The close finish to the set ultimately tilted in favor of Moorhead, which won two points at the net to finish out an extended–and decisive–27-25 game.

Bemidji will next be on home court for a matchup with Buffalo on Tuesday evening at 6:15pm.
