Four first-period goals left #8 Bemidji behind in an 8-0 loss to #1 Roseau in a Section 8AA girls hockey quarterfinal game Tuesday evening.
The Rams were off the mark at 4:24 of the first period with a power play goal from Sophie Helgeson.
Bemidji goaltender Nettie Kimble was busy early and often throughout the first period in her final high school game, shutting down another chance not long after Roseau had jumped in front.
Memphis Mertens scored Roseau’s second goal at the 6:07 mark to quickly double the advantage.
Two more goals would follow late in the period from Kate Helgeson to further enhance Roseau’s lead in quick fashion.
In addition to testing Kimble 17 times during the opening period, the Rams also held Bemidji without a shot in the first.
The netminder continued to battle in the second, coming up with an early kick save using the pad.
Helgeson would add another goal in both the second and third periods to finish with four in the game, with Mertens posting another goal in the second and Kayla Moser completing the scoring in the third.
Roseau finished with a 44-4 advantage in shots, as Kimble finished with 36 saves.
Bemidji finishes the season 1-17-1 overall, graduating two varsity seniors in Kimble and Lexi Leitner.
