Lumberjack Boys & Girls Basketball Teams Sweep Weekend

The Lumberjack Boys Basketball Team had its home opener this weekend with a pair of wins in the Lumberjack Holiday Invitational, while the Lumberjack Girls Basketball team won their 4th and 5th straight with a second consecutive weekend in the Twin Cities area.

The Lumberjack Boys rode strong defense and two strong games from Colton Jensen for a pair of wins. On Friday, The Jacks struggled offensively much of the night, but in the clutch, Colten Jensen scored 21 points for the Jacks will 11 rebounds. Nick Snell added 12 points and Silas Hess had 9 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The Jacks ended up with a 70-60 win over Big Lake. On Saturday, The Jacks played stellar defense again and it helped them eke out a win despite another tough offensive day. But it was another strong day for Colton Jensen who hit 26 points.

The Jacks are 4-3 and won’t be back in action until January 2nd when they host Alexandria at the BHS Fieldhouse. You’ll hear it on the LRN. Meanwhile, in the other two games of the weekend, Hermantown beat Johnson 68-64 Friday night and the Hawks beat Big Lake 82-59 Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Bemidji Girls picked up two more wins in the Metro area this weekend, beginning with a 57-53 win Friday night over St. Anthondy Village. The Jacks were down by a point at the half but opened up the 2nd half with a 12-0 run and had the lead up to 13 with 4 minutes to play, allowing just 4 points in the 1st 14 minutes, but St. Anthony was able to get the deficit to one before Lindsey Hildenbrand hit late free throws to make the final difference 4 points. Hildenbrand had 18 points, while Emily Wade had 11 and Katie Alto had 10. The next afternoon, The Jacks had a 9 point lead at halftime and took it from there, beating Chisago Lakes 51-44. Emily Wade led Bemidji with 18, while Riley Jones had 10 as the Jacks won their 5th in a row.

Bemidji is 7-1 and will host their own two day Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Jacks will face Irondale at 7:30 Friday night and Eagan at 4:30. You’ll hear both games on the LRN. Other games on Friday feature Detroit Lakes and Richfield at 3:30 followed by Hibbing and Eagan at 5:30. Saturday’s other games include Detroit Lakes and Irondale at 12:30 followed by Hibbing and Richfield at 2:30.
