The Lumberjack Girls Basketball team snapped a three game losing streak with a dominant performance in St. Cloud, while the Gymnasts took second at the nine team Moorhead Invite and set more record in the process. Also this weekend, the Lumberjack Boys Swimmers finished fourth at their own Invitational.
LUMBERJACK GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bemidji 74, St. Cloud Apollo 33
The Jacks came out flying Saturday in St. Cloud Saturday, scoring 48 first half points and opening up a 29 point lead. They outscored the Eagles 26-14 in the 2nd half and the Jacks won by 41 points. Katie Alto had 17 points while Emily Wade had 14, 12 in the first half. Ashley Hofstad had 10 points, all in the first half.
The Lumberjacks are 10-4, and snapped a three game losing streak. The Jacks will be back at it Friday, taking on Sartell-St. Stephen on the road in a 7:15 game. You’ll hear it on the LRN beginning with LJ Live at 7pm.
LUMBERJACK BOYS SWIMMING
Bemidji was fourth out of the seven teams at their own Invitational Friday night at the High School pool. Melrose/Sauk Centre won the meet, with Grand Forks takingsecond and Moorhead was third. As has been the case much of the year, the divers led the way, with Aiden Saari winning the competition and Braden Olson taking second. The 200 and 400 Free Relay teams also took second. Moses Son was runner up in the 100 Fly and Walker Erickson was in the 200 IM.
The Jacks will dive back in Tuesday with a dual in Thief River Falls at 5:30.
The Lumberjack Gymnastics team was 2nd out nine teams at the Moorhead Invitational with a score of 144.1, a new Lumberjack team record. Sophomore Lauren Berg set a new school record with a 9.6 in the Beam and taking first. She also scored a school record in the All Around with a 36.45 and had a second place finish. Sophomore Tatum Offerdahl took second and set a new school record in the bars at 9.55.
The Lumberjacks will have a dual meet next, hosting Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Friday night at 6pm in the Gym Bin.
