Mady Schmidt’s memorable tenure of diving for Bemidji High School concluded with a 9th place finish in the Class AA state meet this weekend at the University of Minnesota’s Jean K. Freeman Aquatics Center.
The Bemidji senior comfortably progressed out of Thursday’s preliminary round with a score of 163.65 to place 9th overall. She slid back one spot to 10th after the semifinals the same night with a total of 248.95 and locked up a spot in the finals on Saturday.
Schmidt was able to climb one further spot with her three dives on Saturday to match her 9th-place state finish from sophomore year with a final total of 352.05–a personal best in state competition.
The 2020 section diving champion–who did not get to compete at state that year due to the coronavirus-forced cancellation of a state swimming/diving meet–will be competing in diving next year for the University of South Dakota.
