For the seventh time in his career, Bemidji State Mens Hockey Coach Tom Serratore is a finalist for the Spenser Penrose Award, given to the CCM/American Hockey Coaches Association Division 1 Coach Of The Year.
Serratore has already earned WCHA Coach Of The Year honors for leading the Beavers to a 22-10-5 season, one shy of the D1 era record of 23 wins, which Bemidji State accomplished twice; in 2004-05 and 2009-10. This was the Beavers sixth 20+ win season in the D1 era.
Serratore, as noted, has been a finalist six other times and was runner-up in 2008-09. He joins five other Beavers to earn post season honors.
The other finalists were Brad Barry of North Dakota, Red Gendron of Maine, fellow WCHAer Mike Hastings of Minnesota State, Eric Lang of American International, The Gophers’ Bob Motzko, Arizona State’s Greg Powers, Scott Sandelin of UMD and Mike Schafer of Cornell.
